Just about every company on the planet can use a good computer programmer. Whether they hire someone in-house or use freelancers, programming is a skill that will always be in demand.
Do you know any of the following programming languages?
Java
Javascript
SQL
C
C++
Python
PHP
If so, then you can build a portable, and lucrative, income with the skills you already possess. You can either use one of the micro-job sites to find clients or launch your own business as a Freelance Programmer. If you’re good at what you do, then word-of-mouth may be enough to keep you as busy as you want to be. To ensure that your clients refer you to other companies or provide testimonials for your website, you need to focus on customer service. Focus on the client relationship, stay organized, and ALWAYS deliver your projects on-time!
If, however, you looked at the list above and thought they were written in a foreign language – technically speaking, they are – learning to program can be relatively easy and quick. It is best to focus on one of the programming languages and make it a specialty. After learning some basic programming skills, your abilities will increase with usage and studying the code on websites, apps, and trial and error.

Are you bi-lingual or tri-lingual? If so, becoming a translator could be the perfect portable income opportunity (PIO) for you.
You may believe that translators are only used in the world of international relations such as the United Nations. Nothing could be further from the truth! People who are fluent in two – or more – languages can use their language skills in all types of business situations. You could become involved with interpreting, online teaching, or bilingual telephone calls.
The possibility of working as an online translator has become more realistic and you can probably find something that fits with your schedule and your skills. The only tools you will need are a computer and a reliable internet connection. Some translation jobs may also require you to have access to a reliable phone connection.
Native-level language proficiency is preferred for most translation jobs. Your high school language skills, Duolingo, and Babbel may be great for extended conversations and native interactions while traveling abroad, but they are probably not sufficient for a translation position where you need easy familiarity with colloquialisms and everyday use of the language. If you are not “natively fluent”, it would be best for you to translate from another language into your native language where you can easily determine correct language usage.
Be prepared to take a fluency exam if you apply for translator positions with an agency. Agencies need to be able to assure their clients that the translators they hire can perform all the required assignments accurately.

According to Techopedia, a Web Designer is “someone who prepares content for the Web. This role is mainly related to the styling and layout of pages with content, including text and images. Web designers use many technologies but commonly rely on hypertext and hypermedia resources including HTML, CSS and additional Web design tools.”
“A Web designer will often manipulate actual HTML code. HTML is the common source code for a Web page. Other kinds of code are added into an HTML document to promote advanced functionality. Different kinds of tools can help to auto-produce HTML that will result in a specific design format. A Web designer may also use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to create a unified style and color scheme throughout an entire website.”
“Web designers are often proficient in various higher-level programming languages used to create scripts for the Web. Many of them also focus on the ability to create good-looking sites that will display well on a range of browsers and devices.”
In short, web designers are primarily responsible for making a website aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly. They design the layout of the website, control the flow of information, and may be responsible for website analytics.
If you already know HTML, CSS, and other web design tools, you can find a project, short-term or contract job on one of the micro-job sites listed in that section of Portable Income Opportunities (PIO) on this site.

YouTube has a Creator Academy to help you get started earning money with YouTube. There are 6 “courses” to take you through how to earn money on YouTube.
The most basic way to earn money on YouTube is to post engaging videos that attract viewers and sign up to allow ads to be posted on your channel. What can you post? Anything you would like. Perhaps you want to share your knowledge about model trains or can teach people how to decorate cakes. Once you have filmed and edited your video, you can post it to your very own YouTube Channel.
How do you start a YouTube Channel? A simple Google search turned up these steps:
Sign into YouTube and click on the user icon at the top right of the screen.
Click on the gear icon to get to your account’s YouTube Settings.
Click on Create a new channel.
Then choose “Use a business or other name”
Add your Brand name and click create.
Then, you will want to monetize your channel.
Sign in to YouTube.
In the top right, select your account icon > Creator Studio.
In the left menu, select Channel > Status and features.
Under “Monetization,” click Enable.
Follow the on-screen steps to accept the YouTube Partner Program Terms.
Until you gain a large following of viewers or subscribers to your channel, you should not rely on YouTube for your full-time income. YouTube is great to supplement your income or drive visitors to your store or website.
Additional methods to generate income using YouTube:
Post videos promoting products that you sell on your e-commerce site.
Direct traffic to affiliate links. Use existing affiliate partnerships and upload videos to promote those products, driving traffic to your affiliates and earning your extra income.
Attract sponsors who will pay to underwrite and support your channel. You will negotiate contracts with potential sponsors based on your number of subscribers and impressions.
You can use your YouTube audience statistics to pitch live speaking engagements at conferences and special events.
How can you be successful with your YouTube channel?
Be engaging and enthusiastic in your videos.
Talk about what you know or about your niche.
Be consistent.
Use keywords in your title.
Fill out the description box.
Respond to comments and implement viewer suggestions, if possible.
Do you relish taking the perfect photo – either due to the subject matter, composition, or intrinsic beauty?
You earn money by uploading your photos to stock photo agency websites. The stock photo agency protects your image with a watermark so that nobody can use the image for free. When a person or company purchases your photo, the stock photo agency charges a fee, retains a commission, and pays you a royalty. The more photos you upload, the greater your potential to earn more a robust passive income. If your goal is to earn an income from your photos, stay away from the sites which provide free stock photos.
There are many online stock photo agencies, some of whom specialize in different types of photos. Do your research to determine where your photos would be the best fit. It can be a frustrating process to be accepted into a stock photo agency – you submit your photos and they are sent to photographic reviewers for acceptance or rejection. It may take multiple submissions before your photos are accepted by an agency.
Here are some tips to help your photos get noticed – and licensed – more frequently:
Think like an advertiser and leave room for text.
Take the same photo from different angles.
Pick a niche – this will help you with return buyers and label you an “expert”.
Review each stock photo company’s site to see what types of photos are most popular.
The top four photo stock agencies are:

Dictionary.com defines an editor as “a person having managerial and sometimes policymaking responsibility related to the writing, compilation, and revision of content for a publishing firm or for a newspaper, magazine, or other publication.”

If you are meticulously detailed and a stickler for spelling and grammar, then editing or proofreading may be the job for you.

Blogging
Starting a blog about a topic where you have experience and great interest sounds like an intriguing method of obtaining the portable income you’ve always coveted. You will need a laptop, an internet connection to upload your posts, a domain name, and an internet host provider. There are a lot of internet host providers. I recommend SiteGround. It’s what I now use and I have found their customer service to be very customer-focused and efficient. I am an affiliate, but I switched to SiteGround from another provider and am much happier now.
After settling on your domain name and internet hosting provider, you need to determine which blog platform you would like to use. I use WordPress.org for three of my sites and find it very user-friendly. There are loads themes and plugins to customize your website, including monetization, e-commerce, and forum options. There are also free blogging sites available, WordPress.com and Blogger.com.

Everyone has at least one book inside of them. Most people, however, will never take the time to write the book. It is a time commitment. I wrote and self-published a book a few years ago and it took 4 years from when I first sat down with a basic concept until I was ready to start promoting and selling the book online. I have a few additional books in the initial planning stages, but have mainly been concentrating on writing for the web. I’ll get to them though…
A lot of people, with varying degrees of success, are able to write and publish their books. According to the latest Bowker Report (September 7, 2016), more than 700,000 books were self-published in the U.S. in 2015, which is an incredible increase of 375% since 2010. That’s a lot of competition.
Fortunately, it has never been easier to self-publish your book. Following are methods you can use to start selling your book today!
Your own website: Purchasing a domain and signing up for web-hosting is easy – the hardest part is figuring out what your domain name is going to be. Do you want to use the title of your book or your name or a cute company name? It’s your choice! You are in control! I recommend you use WordPress as it is very user-friendly and there are literally millions of plugins to make your website functional and attractive.
Step 1: Write your book.
Step 2: Save it as a pdf.
Step 3: Upload your book to your website.
Step 4: Start promoting your book!

Shopify defines dropshipping as a retail fulfillment method where a store doesn’t keep the products it sells in stock. Instead, when a store sells a product, it purchases the item from a third party and has it shipped directly to the customer. As a result, the merchant never sees or handles the product.
Shopify also says that the biggest difference between dropshipping and the standard retail model is that the selling merchant doesn’t stock or own inventory. Instead, the merchant purchases inventory as needed from a third party – usually a wholesaler or manufacturer – to fulfill orders.
Why use the dropshipping method?
Dropshipping is an effective solution for running an online store if you are a digital nomad. There is no need to maintain inventory or ship your goods. Your store is run from your laptop and inventory is managed and shipped by your suppliers. That is slightly over-simplified, but dropshipping also helps ensure that you do not end up with a load of unsellable merchandise stacked in your garage.
Can I set up dropshipping with my existing online store?
Yes! When you run a digital store, you choose your suppliers and the merchandise you want to sell. You can choose to buy or import your goods and maintain an inventory of the products you are offering for sale, or you can choose suppliers who offer dropshipping.
How can I learn about dropshipping?
You can certainly try to figure out how to choose suppliers and set up your dropshipping business on your own. There are, however, a number of online courses and guides that make it easier to set up your dropshipping business, start selling your products and improve your profitability.
